My SPNFanfic - A Sunny Friday Afternoon

They were driving in the Impala on a sunny Friday afternoon. Layla by Derek and the Dominoes was coming through the speakers and Jo was singing along enthusiastically which made Dean chuckle.

“What?” She asked.

“Nothing, you’re pretty good” he grinned.

“Shut up” she laughed and hit him hard in the arm.

“Ow, jeez watch it Harvelle! I’m trying to drive here” he smirked at her.

She poked her tongue out at him and continued to sing along.

Dean looked at Jo, her golden hair glistening in the warm sunlight, her smile bright and cheerful. The song slowed and Dean was struck by how truly beautiful she was and how lucky he was to have her in his life.

Then it hit him like a punch in the gut. He loved her.

He never allowed a women to get this close to his heart. Not since his mother. There was too much danger in his life to be able to have any type of healthy relationship with anyone. But what Dean and Jo had was different. Well they hunted monsters together so it wasn’t exactly healthy either, but it worked for them. She was strong and could handle herself even though Dean still was over protective of her. She grew up in the same life as he did. They had both lost people. They understood each other.

Dean saw a turn off for the river and took it.

“Dean… where are we going?” Jo asked raising an eyebrow at him.

“You’ll see.” Dean smirked.

They reached the river not long after that and he pulled the Impala over. It was beautiful. The water was shimmering in the sun’s light, the birds were chirping and a light breeze was blowing through the trees. He wasn’t often afforded days like these in his line of work.

Dean turned to Jo who still looked confused but was enjoying the view. He was sweating bullets, he’d never done this before. He’d fought monsters and all manner of evil creatures without batting an eye and right now he had never been more afraid.

“Jo, I…” he faltered.

“Dean, are you ok, you look a bit green” looking at him with her big brown eyes, her forehead creasing with concern.

Dean shook his head a little. “Jo, I need to tell you something. I know we aren’t one of those love dovey, puke inducing couples, and I realise I might not tell you all the time how I feel but I need you to know that..” He dropped his gaze to his hands, he didn’t know if he could get it out. He hasn’t said it since he was four.

“Dean” Jo said placing her hand on his. “What’s wrong? You’re kinda freaking me out.”

He looked up at her touch and found the courage he needed. He took a deep breathe, squeezing her hands.

“Jo I… I kind of… I … I love you, you know?”

Jo didn’t say anything, her face just went from a look of concern to a look of surprise. Her mouth hanging open in shock.

“Jo, did you hear me” Dean’s heart was hammering in his chest so hard he could hear it in his ears.

“Jo I” Dean started but he was cut off because Jo had pulled him into a deep, passionate kiss. Her hand clasping the back of his neck, one of his hands grasping her face and the other going to her back pulling her closer, deepening the kiss.

After what seemed like a couple of blissful hours they broke apart gasping for breath.

“Does that mean you love me too?” Dean smirked, stroking her face. He hadn’t felt this good in years.

“Yeah, I guess it does Winchester. What are you gonna do about it?” She had that all too familiar look on her face as she kissed his neck just below his chin making him shiver.

“Oh I’ve got a few ideas Harvelle” flashing her his famous Dean Winchester grin and throwing in a wink for good measure as he got out of the car dragging her with him.
Once they were in the back seat of the Impala their wasn’t much coherent talking going on after that.
