You know why Sam’s wall breaking down was such a big deal?

Because Sam never got the extra cookie. He never got the crusts cut off his sandwiches. He never had a mother to hold him close, he never had normal. His best memories were with other people’s lives. He just never looked at family the way Dean does.

AND YET.

Sam ripped down the wall, merged the three factions of himself, endured impossible suffering and horror inside his own head. Because he loved his brother that much, that he couldn’t leave him alone. There’s been so much doubt, ever since Dark Side of the Moon, about where Sam really stood. What was really going on his head? Dean chose to die beside Sam in Swan Song, if that was what it took. What about Sam? How much did he really care?

Sam could’ve had Jess. Could’ve had anything. But out of all of it, in a tug-of-war between sanity and Hell, he chose, Dean.

He chose family.

And, well…isn’t that kinda the whole point?
